BE A FRIEND!

...and contribute to the mission of the UCR Botanic Gardens. Formally established in 1980, the Friends provide support for the development and maintenance of the Gardens. Through funds accrued from our annual membership fees, contributions and public events and through volunteer member participation in various activities and projects, public areas are enhanced and the unique plant collections are continually expanded.

Together, we are helping to create an environment that truly serves the needs and desires of the community as well as those of the University. The Botanic Gardens you experience today would not have been possible without the input, generous support and enthusiasm of the Friends. Be a Friend and help us make a difference.

RECEIVE FRIENDS' BENEFITS

It is both inspiring and gratifying to contribute to a worthy undertaking such as the Botanic Gardens. However, when you become a Friend of the Botanic Gardens, you also benefit. Perhaps the most coveted of all the Friends' benefits is that of...

First Choice!

In the fall and spring of each year, plant sales are held in the Gardens. The choice of plants includes many rare varieties as well as some old-fashion favorites, all selected with our climate in mind. The first three hours of the first day of each sale is reserved for Friends to make their purchases.

Plus, our Annual Seed List gives Friends the opportunity to choose from seeds of rare and hard-to-find plants.

Special Invitations

Friends are invited to four annual member ship events: the Spring Outing, the Fall Dinner, the Winter Luncheon and the Annual Meeting which is free to all members. These are fun, informal and satisfying social occasions, featuring tasty food.

In addition, Friends receive a discount when they attend our enjoyable gardening courses through the Adult Education Class series.

The Quarterly Newsletter

You will receive our official Botanic Gardens newsletter. Collected as a resource by many Friends, the newsletter contains pertinent articles on horticulture, Botanic Gardens Activities, plants for inland areas, a calendar of member and other events of interest, related travel and more. Concomitant with the plant sales, the newsletter features an inventory with descriptions of the plants to be offered.

ENHANCED MEMBERSHIPS

In addition to the benefits of membership presented above, Friends may make a special gift and receive further benefits:

"Sustainers" (a donation of $100 or more) receive a Gardens t-shirt and a large botanical poster suitable for framing.

"Benefactors" (a donation of $500 or more) receive the above, plus two tickets to either the Fall Dinner or the Winter Luncheon.

"Patrons" (a donation of $1000 or more) receive the Gardens t-shirt, a large botanic poster and two tickets to the Fall Dinner and to the Winter Luncheon.

ONCE AGAIN, ALL FRIENDS...

...receive the gratification of knowing that they are helping the Botanic Gardens in its quest to improve and expand its service to the community.
